Obituary: Wendell Cornett, 79, Bardstown

Wendell Cornett, 79, of Bardstown, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018, at his home. He was born Dec. 25, 1938, in Perry County. He was a master mason, and owner of Wendell’s Music Shop. He was a Bluegrass musician, a U.S. Air Force veteran, and a member of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bev and Hattie Cornett; one sister, Cleda Watts; and one brother, Gayle Cornett.

He is survived by four daughters, Cindy (Donald) Walker and Wendy (Wayne) Dial, both of Elizabethtown, Denise (“Cockey”) Carey and Brenda (Dr. Bill) Hagan, both of Bardstown; two sons, David (Linda) Brown of Louisville and Aaron Cornett of Clarksville, Tenn.; two sisters, Bradis “Toots” Maggard of Georgetown and Zuela Hay of Louisville; and two brothers, Neal Cornett and Vanzell Cornett, both of Bardstown; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The memorial service is noon Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at Barlow Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Chesser officiating.

Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2018 and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may go to donor’s favorite charity or church.

Barlow Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
